With the BMW's struggling to find a massive 2 seconds compared to the other brands, the race weekend was looking tough for Tom and the FK performance squad.

Qualifying

Moh set a lap time good enough for P24 overall just a couple of tenths off of the fastest BMW of the session. The car looked good for race pace, but with rain coming in for the first race, a gamble would be what Tom needed.

Race 1 – P13 P2 BMW

Race 1 was a crazy race! As the rain fell on the grid with everyone on dry tyres the race was to be flipped on it's head. Bravely, Tom and his crew decided to stick with the slick tyres as there was no more rain forecast for the rest of the race- only the 2nd car on the grid to make the same decision. The start of the race was a complete washout for Moh, somehow staying on the track for his stint. At the end of Moh’s stint it was becoming drier and drier and when Tom got in the car the dry tyres were a lot quicker than the wets. At that point Tom climbed from P24 to P11. But then, unfortuntely the rain began to fall again which then swung the way of the teams using wet tyres. As it stopped once more Tom began picking his way through, but made a small mistake at T5 touching a wheel on the rubber line. At the end of a truly frantic race Tom ended up P13 and 2nd BMW home- a remarkable result!

Quali 2 – P19 P2 BMW

Another wet session as this time Tom was set to qualify the car. In the 20 minute session, he was going faster and faster, at one point being near the top 10 despite the car being more than 2 secs off of the pace. At the end of the session he put a great lap together for P19, joint fastest with the fastest BMW.

Race 2 – P22

Tom made a great start in Race 2. He flew up to P16 overall and P1 BMW for a while. As his stint drew out, Tom started to really struggle with the tyres and rear end grip and just couldn't compete with the top 15. At the end of his stint, Tom was still in the top 20 overall, again the team gambling on how late they could leave it until Tom pitted. Unfortunately the gamble was one too far, as Tom missed the pit window by just 10 secs. This put the pair out of the top 20 ending in P22 overall- a bitterly disappointing end to a tough weekend.

Tom commented "A really tough weekend from our side. Race 1 was absolutely maximised with us gambling on tyres- so thank you to FK Performance for that. All I can say is I hope the Balance of Performance doesn't put us out of the running for the next round."
