Two 45 minute free practices before Qualifying 1 on Friday took place. It was to be a strong start as the British Pairing scored P4 and P5 for free Practice 1 and 2 respectively.
Qualifying 1 was to be driven by Tom on Friday evening. It was to be a tough session as the circuit was cooling down, making it even more high risk than it already was. Tom prepared for his lap on the new Pirelli tyres, when the red flag was shown due to an incident on track. Crucially Tom's tyres were not yet up to temperature before they cooled down, hindering his chances of even making the Top 10. Tom pushed on and put in a great lap but only good enough for P16.
Race 1 started very well for Tom. He moved to the outside of the first corner and already made his way up to P13. At turn 7 he made a stunning move round the outside of one of the Aston Martin's and pulled a gap into turn 8. Into Turn 9 the field bunched up and unfortunately Tom was hit hard from behind causing him to spin. Luckily Tom could keep going but he was to be P28 and last as the field entered a safety car period. After the safety car Tom stormed through the field. Within his 25 minute stint, he made up 14 places all the way up to P14 overall before handing the car over to his teammate Moh.
Moh made a storming start to his drive, jumping another couple of cars in the pits. A big gap ahead meant that Moh struggled to make anymore places up, but after a couple of cars ahead retired and received penalties, Moh and Tom came over the line P8 overall, a huge result after the bad start.
After Moh's qualifying, Moh was to start the race in P15.
Making a good start in the first 3 laps, he made his way up to P12 overall and in the group for P5 overall. A small mistake at Turn 1 unfortunately dropped them down to P19. At the pitstop, the pairing jumped up to P16 due to another storming stop by the FK Performance team. Tom showed amazing pace, carving his way through the field up to P11. As the race went into the final 10 mins, Tom made a stunning move on the Mercedes into Turn 1, selling a dummy move. 2 laps later, he made a brilliant move on the W&S Porsche into Turn 9. After the car ahead got a puncture in the heat, Tom crossed the line in a stunning P8 overall, an amazing comeback.
Tom commented "thank you so much to FK Performance for giving me such a great car. We have worked so hard getting the new BMW M4 GT4 in the right window, and I truly believe now we have a race winning car. A huge thanks also to my sponsors at ARX security."
