It was a rain- soaked weekend at Oulton Park for the first round of British GT.
Tom was really excited to be racing the Aston Martin for the first time in such a prestigious championship, against factory drivers and some big names in motorsport.
Damage to the car on Friday meant Tom didn't get out, but the team worked through the night to have the no 61 Aston ready for FP1.
In qualifying he came 7th & team mate Jan qualified 9th.
Race 1 on Monday was very wet but a drying track. Tom was lying 4th overall towards the end of his stint, when he hit some water and went off, but was fortunate to re-join and carry on. Jan then took over for the 2nd stint. He did a great job to carry the car home to a great 6th in the Silver cup.
British GT race 2 started under the safety car, but eventually red flagged due to the awful weather conditions, with extremely poor visibility. The meeting was then sadly cancelled but entirely appropriate.
Tom Wood “Academy Motorsport did a fantastic job, giving us a wonderful race car. I’m really proud to represent Aston Martin and hope we can bring some outstanding results this season. I can't wait for the next round at Rockingham in 3 weeks, where hopefully the weather is a bit kinder!”
Round two of the 2018 British GT Championship takes place at Rockingham on the 28-29th April.
