Castle Donington’s Tom Wood announced today that, after his successful 2018 year in the British GT championship, he is moving onto an even bigger, international, motorsport stage.

This year, Tom will be competing in the European GT4 series driving the new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 car run by Academy Motorsport. In these endurance races, Tom will be partnering Fiona James in a Pro-Am pairing for this year’s campaign.

The six rounds of the European Championship will hold 2 races at each event, with Tom’s campaign starting on 12th April at Monza, Italy and ending on 1st September at the Nürburgring, Germany. The rounds take place across Europe, in five countries with two rounds in Italy and one each in France, Germany, UK at Brands Hatch and The Netherlands.

Tom is 17, one of the youngest British drivers on the international circuit. Delighted with the 2019 race plan, Tom said:

“I’m super excited to be racing in Europe with Fiona this season, who raced the Academy Aston Martin in Europe last year. The championship is renowned as one of if not the most competitive GT4 championship in the world. To be racing around some of the world’s most famous Grand Prix race tracks such as Monza and the Nürburgring is something that I have been dreaming about since I started racing at 6 years old.”

“We’ve got some tough competition this year but I’m sure with the new Aston Martin, which I’ve already tested at Silverstone, and strong Aston Martin factory engineering support for our team, we can be extremely competitive.”

Tom is also delighted that he has the ongoing support from MSV Donington Park and is proud to represent them again this year.

“It’s such a privilege to have Donington Park’s support again this year. We’ve come on such a journey together and I thank everyone who has been there for me.”

You can follow Tom’s progress throughout the year with all races being shown live on the European GT4 You Tube channel and Facebook page. For more information on the European GT4 Championship visit their website here.
